After 15 years of pioneering community-led change across Scotland and beyond, WEvolution is planning to close its doors. From the 31st of January 2026, the Small Powerful Group Community will transition from WEvolution's stewardship and into the hands of the community.
Over the past few years, the funding landscape has transformed dramatically- funding priorities have moved further away from investing in female entrepreneurship at the grassroots level.
Despite our relentless efforts to secure sustainable funding—exploring social enterprise models, private partnerships, and restructuring options—it is no longer possible to imagine our future as an organisation.
We could fight against this reality, or we could respond to it with the same creativity and resilience we've always encouraged in our groups. And we've chosen the latter.
Because ideas that matter never truly die. They transform.
Between now and January 2026, our focus turns to ensuring what we've built together continues to flourish in new forms.
We're documenting our Small, Powerful Groups methodology not as an artifact for a shelf, but as a living resource.
We're gathering stories to preserve the wisdom that has emerged from this collective journey. These aren't just testimonials; they're roadmaps for others.
We’re handing over control of our online community to Small Powerful Group members so these connections continue. Hopefully in time being led by the very women who once thought they had nothing to offer.
Since 2010, women have been driving remarkable change through their small powerful groups and on our community platform. So much so that our simple belief—that communities hold their own solutions—has transformed into a powerful reality.
Together we've established 350 Small, Powerful Groups empowering 1,500 women to find their voice. We've ignited the entrepreneurial spark in 500 women. Together, we've generated £26 million in social and economic value, revitalising communities typically overlooked.
The evidence is clear: the most effective solutions emerge not from institutions, but from kitchen tables, community centres, and neighbours who envision a better future. Are you up for it?

We've tried everything we possibly could—applying for grants, speaking with past and potential funders, exploring partnerships, and looking at different operational models. This decision wasn't made lightly and comes after exhausting all alternatives.

WEvolution will formally close on 31st January 2026. This gives us time to properly document our work, celebrate our community's achievements, and support the transition of elements, like our community on circle, that can continue independently.
-
Your group can continue! The relationships, skills, and connections you've built remain yours. While WEvolution as an organisation will no longer exist to provide the same level of support, the foundation of your group—the people, purpose, and potential—remains strong.
-
No. One of our priorities is to hand over control of the online community platform and a small working budget to a dedicated team of Small Powerful Group members by January 2026. We'll be exploring how this transition can work over the coming months.
-
Absolutely. Your SPG belongs to its members, not to WEvolution. You can continue meeting, supporting each other, and pursuing your group's goals independently.
-
During this transition period, we will continue to maintain the online community platform with events and workshops running as normal.
-
While WEvolution as a formal organisation is closing, we're creating space for the community, partners, and new collaborators to step forward if they choose to. The movement doesn't have to end—it can evolve into something new, led by the community itself.
-
We welcome your involvement! You can:
Participate in upcoming discussions about the future of the community platform
Share your ideas for how elements of the work might continue
Connect with other SPG members who are interested in taking things forward
Join the team helping to manage the transition of the online platform
Let us know what resources would be most valuable to preserve
-
Yes! We're planning to celebrate the incredible achievements of this community before January 2026. Details will be shared in the coming months, and we welcome your ideas for how we should mark this transition. And in the meantime don’t miss our upcoming Peer Gathering in August. You can RSVP here
-
We're committed to documenting and openly sharing our methodology and learning. These resources will be made available to the community and partners who wish to build upon this work through our website.

We understand this news may be difficult. You can reach out to Eleanor (eleanor@wevolution.org.uk) or Heather (heather@wevolution.org.uk) who can provide support or connect you with others in the community. We would also encourage you to join our online platform where you can attend a weekly drop-in or participate in one of our deep-dive conversations about the transition. And perhaps most importantly, remember that your fellow SPG members are also experiencing this transition—supporting each other has always been at the heart of this community.
